Sodium percarbonate resembles baking soda but has little to do with it. It's a powerful oxidizer that releases active oxygen upon contact with hot water - it's this oxygen that removes stains, whitens and disinfects surfaces and fabrics. No chlorine, no harsh odor, biodegradable.
How sodium percarbonate works
Sodium percarbonate is made of sodium carbonate and hydrogen peroxide (oxygenated water). On contact with hot water, it releases active oxygen that breaks down stain and organic soil molecules.
Two essential rules:
1. Heat is needed to activate it: minimum 40°C, ideal 60°C. Below that, the action is very limited.
2. Its effectiveness after dilution lasts about 4 hours maximum. Prepare the solution just before use, do not store it.
Never mix with vinegar, lemon or citric acid - the acid-base reaction destroys the active oxygen and cancels out any effect.

Active oxygen, hot water, and stains disappear. Percarbonate naturally does what bleach does with chlorine - without the drawbacks.
What can be treated with percarbonate
WHITE LAUNDRY AND STUBBORN STAINS - Dissolve 2 to 3 tablespoons in a basin of water at 60°C. Soak the fabric for 1 to 2 hours. Effective on tea, coffee, red wine, grass stains, and set-in sweat stains. Precautions: do not use on silk, wool, or delicate fibers.
TILE GROUT - Apply a thick paste (percarbonate + hot water) directly on blackened grout. Leave to act for 30 to 60 minutes, brush, rinse. Spectacular results on bathroom grout.
SINKS AND BASINS - Sprinkle on, pour boiling water over it, leave to act for 20 minutes. Removes stains and sanitizes.
WASHING MACHINE (maintenance) - 2 to 3 tablespoons directly in the empty drum, cycle at 60°C. Cleans the drum, seal and pipes.
Reference dosages
Laundry soak: 2 to 3 tablespoons per 5 liters of water at 60°C.
Grout paste: percarbonate + hot water in equal amounts.
Washing machine maintenance: 2 to 3 tablespoons in the drum, 60°C cycle.
Surface disinfection: 1 tablespoon per 500 ml of boiling water.
Always use the hottest water possible to maximize activation. The solution loses its effectiveness after 4 hours: prepare in small quantities.

Conclusion
Sodium percarbonate is one of the most effective natural products for whitening and stain removal - provided you respect the activation temperature and the 4-hour usage window. It's a must-have product for treating stubborn stains, maintaining the washing machine, and restoring shine to tile grout.
Tip
Pro tip: use a kettle to always have water at the right temperature. Tap water is rarely hot enough to properly activate percarbonate.
